freezes up
I reboot, and the computer freezes after the Windows 98 splash screen. By resetting the system after that, you get into the "Windows did not properly shut down, boot in [1] normal [2] safe . . . . . " menu. By booting into normal, it will boot up, but will still give the "Display setting error" message.

I have tried setting the Windows display option to "Best Performance." I have set all of Far Cry's display settings to the lowest quality. Because I have heard about the copy protection preventing some CD and DVD drives from readign the disc, I have even applied the No-CD crack. I have not applied any patches yet.

You may need to make some display setting changes and if your video card doesn't support those settings, yes you would have the screen go black. It just can't handle it.
